**Screening in conjunction with the P.T. Anderson 35mm Picture Show**
“I have a competition in me. I want no-one else to succeed.”
Enduring a painful 5 year wait after the wondrously offbeat PUNCH DRUNK LOVE, Anderson’s next mystery project could not have been more anticipated if it tried. Luckily that anticipation came through in spades with what many have described as the Citizen Kane of the 2000s. A film that will undoubtedly stand the test of time and be remembered for decades to come as a high point in American cinema.
Traveling with his “son and partner” H.W. in turn-of-the-century California, oil prospector Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day Lewis in a legendary Oscar-winning role) is tipped off to an untapped oil well. Upon arrival he meets his competition in the pastor of a local church, Eli Sunday (Paul Dano). What ensues is a vicious, true-to-its-title tale of family, religion, greed, hatred, and above all else, oil!
